But I Don't Like to Fish!

I’ve always wrestled with the “fishers of men” invitation Jesus gave to His first disciples. It always seemed a little un-relatable to me personally. I mean, I get it. They were being called to focus on people instead of fish.

Then I realized that He was talking to FISHERMEN...DUH!

Maybe the point Jesus was making is that His call to each of us is personal, specific, and direct.

Most likely, Jesus isn’t calling you to be a “fisher of men”—unless you actually happen to be a fisherman. Think about it:

If you’re in medicine, He might say, “Follow me and I will make you a healer of hearts.”

If you’re in the arts, He might say, “Follow me and I will make you a communicator to the soul.”

If you fix cars, He might say, “Follow me and I will show you how to repair broken lives.”

If you teach, He might say, “Follow me and I will make you a conveyor of Truth.”

Think about YOUR passion. Then ask yourself, “How is Jesus calling ME?”

Pray about it.

Ask Jesus directly.

The answer might open up the door to possibilities you may have never considered.
