Letting Go

Writer: Steven L. BarrSteven L. Barr

Oftentimes God calls us to release people we love or things we are passionate about. If you’re like me, you’ll resist, wrestle, and clinch a fist even tighter as you look for an alternative solution rather than trusting that God knows what He’s doing. The truth is none of us possess the big picture. I mean the REALLY big picture; the ETERNAL PICTURE. We must simply believe that whatever God is asking us to release is for our good and for His glory. I know that’s easy for me to say but hard for any of us to do. Like a teddy bear, security blanket, or favorite toy, we all need something in our hands to help us feel safe and in control. But God wants us to grow beyond these things and see Him as our only necessity for life. What are you holding onto today that God has been asking you to release?

A goal at the end of your career path.

A plan for your marriage and family.

A vision for a dream home.

A strategy to enhance your finances.

A dream of having a platform and an audience.

Or it might look a little different:

An apology you believe you are owed. Maybe you are holding

A word of forgiveness that God wants you to give someone.

A status-quo feeling that you don't want to see disturbed.

Anger that you feel you are entitled to bear.

Only you and God know what you are hesitating to let go. Whatever is clasped in your tight grasp is not as valuable as what God wants to place into your open hand. Let go of it and give it to God. What He gives you in exchange is worth infinitely more.
